Tidying Up Our Tandem

This is our second tandem. We bought it in 2003. It's toured in Spain, UK, France, Slovenia, Cambodia, Thailand, Germany and Laos. It's a Thorn Explorer from SJS cycles in Bridgewater, Somerset. I've never been down there. I need to.

I bought our first tandem from a guy called Frank in Rouen. It was somebody's frame building project. Great bike. It got us into touring and taught us how to cooperate on the bike. We took it to Greece, Cyprus, Lebanon, USA and China.

Tandems are quite maintenance heavy. There are two and a half chains, super-long cables, an eccentric bottom bracket, two riding positions and under-performing brakes to keep dialled. So I've decided to set it up single speed from now on.

I’ll keep it hanging in the shed, ready for park trips, shopping, forest shreds, picnics, the school-run and impromptu overnights.
